Is this Zelle payment request a scam?

It may be. Zelle scams take two shapes. First, a fake “Zelle” or bank text/call says there's fraud on your account and coaches you to “reverse” it by sending money to yourself — which actually sends it to the scammer. Second, a marketplace “buyer” sends a fake “Zelle Business upgrade” email and asks you to refund a “overpayment.” Zelle is instant and irreversible, so once it's gone, it's gone.

A real Zelle payment request comes from someone you know and trust, and your bank will never ask you to Zelle money to yourself or to a “safe account” to stop fraud. There's no “Zelle Business account” you must pay to upgrade. Only send Zelle to people you personally know. If a request or link looks off, paste any link into a scam check and confirm with your bank on its official number first.
