Scam Detective vs Google Safe Browsing
Google Safe Browsing (via the Transparency Report) tells you whether Google has flagged a URL for hosting malware or phishing. It powers the red warning screens in Chrome and is a great free check for links that are already known-bad.
Its blind spot is timing: it flags sites Google has already caught. A scam store or phishing page set up this week — exactly the ones catching people out — typically shows “no unsafe content found” until enough damage is done to get it reported.
Scam Detective doesn’t wait for a site to be blocklisted. It reads the live signals a fresh scam gives off right now — domain age, impersonation, fake-store and payment red flags — and scores them into a verdict on the spot.
